What kind of leather is Japan Eco Leather?
This refers to leather that meets the Japan Eco Leather Standards and is recognized as having a low impact on the environment, taking into consideration reducing the environmental burden throughout the entire life cycle of the product, from production, transportation, sale, consumption, reuse, and disposal.
In addition, the Japan Eco Leather Certification is limited to "leather that does not damage the cross-sectional fiber structure of the skin."
The following three types of leather are covered:
- Category 1: Silver-plated leather from the main livestock animals: cattle, horses, pigs, sheep, and goats
- Category 2: Split leather made from the leftover flesh side of leather discarded during the tanning process
- Category 3: Various animal leathers other than Category 1 and Category 2 (leathers from animals with trade certificates issued by relevant management authorities)
